Johan Vekemans
SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine Global Clinical Head, AstraZeneca
Johan Vekemans is Global Clinical Head at AstraZeneca for the AZ1222 SARS-CoV-2 candidate vaccine. An experienced leader in vaccine development, he previously held positions in clinical, academia, international organizations and other industry settings. At the World Health Organisation, he led vaccine R&D projects related to tuberculosis, HIV, malaria, Group A and Group B Streptococcus and RSV. In a previous role at GSK, Johan was responsible for the Phase I-III clinical development of malaria vaccine candidates. He trained as a paediatrician and has advanced qualifications in immunology and epidemiology. Johan has lived and worked in both Africa and South America and has authored more than 100 vaccine-related scientific publications.
Marwan Abdulaziz
Managing Director, Dubai Science Park
Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi is Managing Director of Dubai Science Park, a community dedicated to serving the entire value chain of the science sector. He has played an instrumental role in establishing Dubai Science Park as the region’s leading community for research and innovation in the sciences, attracting more than 350 companies and strengthening partnerships among corporations, universities, and communities. In 2016, Marwan was appointed Chairing Member of the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment Taskforce of the Dubai Industrial Strategy (DIS) by The Executive Council of Dubai. In this role, he works with The Executive Council to increase investments in research and development and enhance local pharmaceutical infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities. Marwan has completed undergraduate studies at the University of Texas and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. In 2015, he successfully completed the INSEAD-UAE Consortium for Executive Development Programme.
